That was just one issue.
Norman, who has made a reputation of shutting down top receivers this season, harassed Beckham early on and the two were tangled up on several plays, with the Giants receiver appearing to retaliate after the whistle a couple of times.
Newton also took a helmet to the right shoulder when passing in the second period and came to the sideline in obvious pain. Carolina built what seemed to be an insurmountable 35-7 edge late in the third quarter before the Giants found a way to get back into the game by riding the momentum of a blocked field goal and a fumble by Newton deep in his own territory.
Cam Newton threw for five touchdowns in building a 28-point lead before NY stormed back to tie it with 1:46 remaining. How is that for a quarterback’s workday: 5 TD passes, over 300 yards of completed passes and 100 rushing yards.
By the time the Giants got things restarted it was 35-7.
