But either way, the Panthers will likely call upon second-year back Cameron Artis-Payne to handle a solid chunk of the load going forward.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, and possibly be sidelined longer, because of a hamstring injury.

The injury that will apparently keep Stewart out happened during their 46-27 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Rivera said backup safety Dean Marlowe aggravated his hamstring injury against the 49ers, adding “that didn’t sound good, either”.

“We have been trying to find ways to get the young man active, and because of what we have to do on special teams and all that, we haven’t had the chance to put him active”.

Prior to Sunday, Whittaker’s career-high was 41 yards rushing back, that coming back in 2014 against the Atlanta Falcons. He had 9 yards rushing on five carries and 7 yards receiving on two catches.

Whittaker said he was excited about his performance and the victory, but also a little upset at himself over a fumble in San Francisco territory that may have cost his team points. “It just made it easy for me to run”.
