Paoli Bridge Christmas Collapse Owed to Driver Who Can’t Count
She also was not a very good judge of height, apparently: “When the semi entered the bridge the trailer immediately began ripping open due to the trailer was taller than the top of the bridge”, the police report explains. Lambright and her cousin who was riding in the vehicle with her at the time were unharmed. She got off at the following exit and found herself in a situation where she could not turn around. She had been licensed to drive the big rig since May, and told police she still wasn’t too confident backing the thing up. Sanders said the driver will at least have to pay $135 for disregarding a posted sign, reported The Associated Press. She was familiar with the signs that said trucks were prohibited and that there was a six-ton weight limit.

Lambright planned to park her semi-truck in the parking lot of the Paoli Wal-Mart, but missed the exit.
Locals in town are hoping the historic bridge can be rebuilt.
Wilcox Wrecker Service, from Salem, brought two wreckers to remove the semi from the collapsed bridge.
Police advised her that her truck and trailer were close to 30 tons at the time of the crash.
Lambright was cited for reckless operation of a tractor-trailer – a class B misdemeanor – disregarding a traffic control device, and overweight on a posted bridge. Her first inkling this wouldn’t work came when the top of the trailer caved in the top of the steel bridge, and a split second later the bridge collapsed under the weight.
Police say Lambright received her CDL endorsement May 12 and was working for Louisville Logistics.
Authorities say that she’d driven over the bridge before in her own auto and knew about the 6 ton weight limitation.

The semi was hauled away from the scene and will be inspected by Indiana State Police.
