Paramedic Bride Responds to Crash Minutes After Wedding While Still Wearing

Ray had just tied the knot with her husband Paul when they received awful news: Ray’s grandparents and father had been involved in a serious accident while on their way to the wedding reception after a driver ran a red light and slammed into their vehicle.

“I just have to laugh because I know the face I’m giving my mum like, ‘Really mum?” Sarah Ray, Paramedic with Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services, was photographed on her wedding night working the wreck of one of her wedding guests.

“The vehicle was totaled, that’s all we knew”, she said.

Her grandmother is doing well back home in Indiana, and meanwhile, Ray is getting a lot of attention for the photo snapped at the scene of her wedding day heroism.

Her father, she added, suffered from similar, minor injuries.

According to Ray, as the festivities raged on, her 72-year-old grandmother was taken to the hospital and was upset for ruining her granddaughter’s big day. She and her husband, Paul, who is also a paramedic, left the church immediately and headed straight to the scene to check on their family members.

“Professionally, Sarah is an outstanding paramedic and exemplifies what it means to work in EMS”, Edwards said. Her grandfather was not hurt.

“We had stopped at accidents before and in regular clothes”, she added.

Ray on the other hand couldn’t believe her mother was still taking photos at the scene of the crash. “Personally, she is humble and compassionate and sets a good example for us all”.

Ray said Chief Edwards plans on hanging the photo of her in her gown in the office.

“I think the photo is great”, Ray said.
