Parents of actor Anton Yelchin to sue over his death

The 27-year-old actor died in a freak accident at his Los Angeles home in June when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backwards, crushing him against a security gate, and his parents have now filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler – who manufactured Anton’s auto.

“Anton was our only son, a remarkable human being”, his father Victor Yelchin said. “It’s against nature when the parents bury [their] own child”.

The suit does not say how much Yelchin’s parents are seeking in damages, but their attorney, Gary A. Dordick, said they want the company to be punished and hope the lawsuit changes its business practices.

The vehicle involved was one of 1.1 million recalled in April because the gear stick design had confused drivers, leading to multiple injuries.

The couple bravely appeared at a press conference on Wednesday to announce their decision.

The vehicle was one of 1.1 million part of a voluntary recall because of a shifter that gives “no tactile or position feedback as to whether the auto has been actually placed into the safe-to-exit “park” gear”.

The 27-year-old actor died on June 19 after his Grand Cherokee Jeep rolled down his driveway in Los Angeles, pinning him against a security gate.

“He never cared about being a star”, Irina said, wiping tears from her eyes.

She added that while her son was always special, “now he is very special, because his death may save other lives”. The Company has not been served with a lawsuit and can not comment further at this time.

Former Star Trek actor and late Anton Yelchin’s parents are en route to file lawsuit against the carmaker. These instructions include advising customers to set the parking brakes in their vehicles before exiting.

“In its original statement on the accident, Fiat Chrysler noted that “the vehicles also deliver warning chimes and alert messages (‘Vehicle Not in Park’) if their driver-side doors are opened while their engines are still running and PARK is not engaged”.
