“I was asked to do a favour, I did a favour”.

Abdeslam is suspected of playing at least a logistical role in the co-ordinated shooting and suicide bombings in the French capital on 13 November.

Shortly afterwards, armed police backed by armored vehicles and helicopters stationed overhead began a series of raids in which 19 premises in Brussels and three in the industrial city of Charleroi, 50 km (35 miles) to the south, were searched.

“The alert level in Brussels will stay at four, on a scale of one to four”. The Brussels metro system will begin gradually reopening as well, although “serious attention” will be paid to security on the network, Michel said.

An explosive belt that has a possible connection to the Paris attacks was found Monday in a Paris suburb.

Earlier on Monday, British Prime Minister David Cameron said during a visit to Paris that he would seek parliamentary approval for the United Kingdom to join the airstrikes being carried out by the US, France, Russian Federation and other nations in the region against Islamic State extremists in Syria.

“The Investigating Judge, specialised in terrorism cases, has placed one person under arrest warrant for participation in the activities of a terrorist group and terrorist murders”, a statement from Belgium’s federal prosecutor said.

In the meantime, Brussels remains under lockdown as the manhunt for terrorists suspected of being connected to the Paris attacks or planning a similar one continues.

Businesses in Brussels were starting to feel the pain, and while few question the government’s need to protect the public from a potential attack, some shop owners said the shutdown was too extreme.

Islamic State (IS) claimed responsiblity for the co-ordinated assaults in Paris on 13 November.

Belgium had already charged Mohammed Amri and Hamza Attou with aiding fleeing Salah Abdeslam, who is suspected of participating in the Paris attacks.
