Six counter-terrorism judges are overseeing the investigation – an unprecedented number for France. She refused to identify him and provided no further information about his suspected link to the attacks that killed 130 people.
French police have arrested two sets of people in connection with terrorists attacks that rocked Paris this year.
Terrorists detonated suicide vests at the Stade de France, gunned down concertgoers at the Bataclan Theatre, and opened fire on people eating and drinking in inner city bars.
The emails, which clearly imply the police had some knowledge of Hermant’s dubious activities in Belgium, raised uncomfortable questions at the time about the role and responsibility of the state in the January attacks. A Turkish news agency said he acted as a “scout” in selecting target locations.
Two men are already in custody in this investigation.
To date, just one of those suspected of having direct involvement in the attacks remains missing.
The couple are being questioned on suspicion that weapons used by Amedy Coulibaly – the attacker who held hostages in the supermarket – passed through a company owned by one of the people detained.
“Some 1,800 French citizens have been linked to jihadist networks”, added Cazeneuve.
