Paris Motor Show 2016: All-new Kia Rio to get debut

Kia’s fourth-generation Rio – a model assembled and sold widely across the world – will make its world debut on 29 September at the Paris show.

Kia says the Rio’s new shape was a joint effort between its design studios in California and Germany, working under the aegis of Kia’s design hub in its South Korea headquarters. These official design pictures confirm it has a longer wheelbase for more interior space, a stretched bonnet and a stout, upright C-pillar. Kia said the new Rio will be even more practical, while also packing the “latest connectivity features” – most likely Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

It’s the brand’s best-selling model on a global basis.

Kia should be introducing one or two new small turbo engines with the Rio, in line with competitors, especially since the vehicle will be launched first in Europe towards the end of this year. Expect pricing for the new Rio to start from about £11,000.

Kia is giving its Rio subcompact hatchback a sporty look to help it compete better against rivals such as the Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 208.

The current Rio, which has been in production since 2011, costs from £10,945, making it one of the cheapest five-door offerings in the supermini market.
