The members of the American rock band Eagles of Death Metal were able to escape the Paris concert venue where their performance was interrupted by a terror attack that killed dozens of concertgoers.

All members of a California-based band that was to perform at the Paris venue where one of Friday night’s deadly attacks occurred are safe and have been accounted for, a USA official briefed by the Justice Department said.

“We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of “Save A Prayer” to the UK No. 1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected”, reads the campaign page.

Wayne Tong, father-in-law of guitarist Matt McJunkins, said his son-in-law was in protective custody afterward giving a statement to police while his passport was being cleared.

Friday night’s events ensure that the name Bataclan will now be remembered internationally for tragedy rather than music.

Earlier Friday, management for the band said they were “trying to determine the safety and whereabouts” of the band and its crew.

The French band Red Lemons appeared to indicate Hughes’s fiancée, porn star Tuesday Cross, was with Hughes and unharmed, too, saying, “we were with your mates Jesse, Tuesday, the other musicians outside, they’re safe, too, they took a cab”.

The band’s lyricism and shows are often known for lasciviousness, with the two men seeing themselves in the tradition of sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Nick Alexander, 36, from Colchester in Essex, was among those killed in the massacre at the Bataclan, and had been selling merchandise for Eagles of Death Metal.

Update 7: 7:30 pm ET – Fountains of Wayne’s Jody Porter posted the following update on Facebook: “Eagles have left the building”.

Sacramento’s Deftones were scheduled to play Le Bataclan the following three nights. “I hope all the crew & band members are safe”.

Eagles of Death Metal guitarist Eden Galindo is reported to have escaped.

The music hall can seat up to 1,500 people, but it was unclear how many were inside when the attack began. Opening act White Miles’ member Ben Gazey posted to Facebook “Just heard from the band and they’re safe”.
