Park Service marks centennial

The National Park Service celebrated its 100th birthday on Thursday with events across the United States including the creation of a living version of its emblem in Washington, D.C., a naturalization ceremony on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and an outdoor concert at Yellowstone National Park. That includes free admission this weekend.
National Park Service was founded in 1916 to preserve the unimpaired natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the education, enjoyment and inspiration of this and future generations.
The Ocmulgee National Monument made the centennial celebration their own by asking Maconites to send in their pictures of national parks for a photography exhibit.
Today happens to be the 100th birthday of the foundation of the US National Park Service.

At last count, parks assisted by the land and water fund touch the lives of people in more than 98 percent of US counties.
