Jordan died due to meningoencephalitis, or inflammation of the meninges and the brain.
She had said that she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint inside the moving auto after she was given a lift in the vehicle from Park Street area in Kolkata on the Feb 5-6 night, 2012.
The rape case took a controversial turn, when the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed the rape as a ‘Sajano ghotona (fabricated incident)’ even before an inquiry was initiated.
She filed a complaint with the police officials about the incident. Jordan had also been targeted for acting irresponsibly and was blamed for her own rape. However, three of the five accused were arrested.
