A Kolkata court today found guilty three of the accused in the Park Street rape case. Two others, including the main accused Kader Khan are still absconding. Nicqui and Karen Jordan, the sister and mother of “the Park Street rape victim”, Suzette Jordan, and her two teenage daughters, Rhea and Jade were waiting with bated breath. Jordan died due to meningoencephalitis, or inflammation of the meninges and the brain.

She had said that she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint inside the moving auto after she was given a lift in the vehicle from Park Street area in Kolkata on the Feb 5-6 night, 2012.

The rape case took a controversial turn, when the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed the rape as a ‘Sajano ghotona (fabricated incident)’ even before an inquiry was initiated.

She filed a complaint with the police officials about the incident. Jordan had also been targeted for acting irresponsibly and was blamed for her own rape. However, three of the five accused were arrested.
