Park View set for first game in Little League World Series

The eight top Little League teams from the United States and the eight best global teams have converged on Williamsport, Pennsylvania to compete in the Little League World Series.

Player Moms Becky Owens and Michelle Raleigh say the team has had wonderful support from the community. “It’s baseball heaven, basically, for a kid. They were like, ‘Oh we just come to watch it every year.’ When you have your son in it, it’s incredible”, said Owens.

Park View is the 12th team from San Diego County to reach the Little League World Series and fourth in eight years.

All 16 teams walked the field in front of thousands of fans before the day’s opening game between Panama and New Mexico.

Park View assured itself of a berth in the Little League World Series Saturday by winning the West Regional tournament with a 1-0 victory over the all-star team from Las Vegas’ Mountain Ridge Little League, the Nevada state champion. Great Lakes, at South Williamsport, Pa.

“Some teams haven’t played here before”, Newman said.

“We showed up to give them support because they are the hometown favorites and they’re from NY, too”, said Tyler Beckley. “That first game on Monday, getting to play on that field gets the jitters out of playing on the field”.

While the team is enjoying itself, this is still a business trip for them. In each of the last four years, an worldwide team has been crowned the champion. “To get to this point, it not only takes focus and talent, but it takes some good fortune, so we’re hoping the fortune stays our way as well”.
