The first half of the session will be from February 23 to March 16, while the second part of proceedings will be held between April 25 and May 13. According to reports, the government is mulling of doing away with the recess of three weeks during the Budget Session in view of five upcoming state elections.
The General Budget is expected to be presented in the Lok Sabha on February 29, the last day of February, as is the practice. The Government is of the view that the states should first review the department-related standing committee issues. Shri Naidu said that the dates could be adjusted based on the suggestions of different parties.
CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said every year government should come out with a calender of Parliament sittings so that there is no confusion. “The Prime Minister will also know about the sittings and will remain in House and not be overseas”, he said.
Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mr. Anand Sharma and Mr. Deepender Hooda from the Congress Party, Mr. Ramgopal Yadav (SP), Mr. Sharad Yadav and Mr. K.C.Tyagi (JDU), Mr. Bhartrihari Mahtab (BJD), Mr. Ambeth Rajan (BSP), Mr. Derek O’Brien (TMC) and Dr. Venugopal (AIADMK) participated in the consultations with the Government. The session will commence on February 23.
But after a unanimous decision it was decided that the number of days of the budget session will not be changed.
