With funding from the ice bucket challenge, they are trying to develop a therapy that will work on humans. After last year's hugely successful run, Renée Zellweger has kickstarted the inevitably long list of celebrities who will once again accept the ALS challenge.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. As a result, the ALS Association received $115 million in donations over a six-week period in 2014. There is no cure, and only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modestly extends survival. “All of your donations have been amazingly helpful, and we have been working tirelessly to find a cure”, he wrote on the social-media site.

Scientists in Maryland have made a new discovery that could lead to a cure for ALS.

It was under warm skies that the Rhode Island chapter of the ALS Association kicked off its chilly 2015 Ice Bucket Challenge in Garden City Center last week.
