Pascoe wins second gold at Rio Paralympics

This is Pascoe’s third medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, after winning gold yesterday in the Women’s 100m Backstroke S10 and silver the day before in the Women’s 50m Freestyle S10 after posting a personal best time.

New Zealand leads the medals per capita table at the Rio Paralympics, with the nine medals one edging the nation ahead of Slovenia and Jamaica into first place.

China’s Lei Liu took Gold with a lift of 221kg, smashing the Paralympic Record and World Record, while Iraq’s Rasool Mohsin clinched Silver with a lift of 220kg.

“This is my greatest achievement in the Paralympics”.

Much of the success has been down to dominance on the powerlifting benches.

Grimaldi, who won gold in the T47 long jump event on Friday, will also compete in the 200 metres later in the week.

Omolayo shattered her own world record and set a new one of 138kg to win gold while Ejike smashed the world record thrice to win the gold medal. Nigerian athletes have won six of their seven medals so far in powerlifting, which sees athletes within a certain weight category bench press.

In the final event of the men’s under 80kg competition, the 32-year-old won the gold medal lifting 240kg in the third round. Cao Ningning won the Gold.
