“While the aircraft was taxiing away from the departure bay, one of the engines was hit by a maintenance vehicle operated by another company”, a Dragonair spokesperson told CNN.

Passengers on the plane, which was scheduled to depart at 3:30pm, were reportedly asked to disembark the aircraft and the flight later took off at 4:20pm, according to Flight Aware.

Police told South China Morning Post that the plane’s engine had crashed into the van, saying: “The driver who was trapped on board the light goods vehicle was rescued”.

The van driver sustained injuries on the head and shoulder in the 4pm incident. He was later taken to hospital, a Hong Kong International Airport spokesman said.

An Airport Authority spokesman said: “The plane was about to leave Hong Kong for Penang when it collided with a (China Aircraft Services) vehicle near apron 25”.
