The pilots of an Air France flight – carrying 459 passengers – from Mauritius to Paris landed suddenly at Moi International Airport in Mombasa after the package was discovered in the toilet.

According to Kenyan police officials, the onboard device was suspected to be a bomb. The airport in Mombasa was closed during the evacuation and search process, said a police official, who insisted anonymity because he is not authorized to brief the media.
Boinnet said bomb experts from Kenya navy and district criminal investigation officer retrieved the device and taken it for dismantling to determine whether the components contains explosives.
The airline said it was working to re-route is passengers and was sending another plane to Mombasa to fly them to Paris. He spoke to journalists after leaving the plane in Mombasa.

A passenger on Air France Flight 463 says everything was calm and passengers thought there was simply a technical problem as their flight to Paris was being diverted to the Kenyan city of Mombasa. “We did not know what was happening”, said Luchini.
