However, the domestic air traffic growth remained stagnant in July compared to the previous month as the tourist season came to an end.
In July this year, airlines carried 85.08 lakh fliers, against 67.62 lakh in July 2015, which is a growth of 25.82%.
The data showed that low-priced carrier (LCC) SpiceJet had the highest passenger load factor (PLF) during the month under review at over 90 per cent.
Low-priced carrier Indigo remained in the lead carrying more than 3.38 million passengers in July 2016 and increasing its market share by more than 5.01 percentage points in July from the previous month. This record double-digit growth is for the 24th consecutive month on the back of lower fares attracting more fliers.
“The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of July 2016 has been 0.70 per cent”, the aviation regulator said.
The market share of its rivals are Jet Airways (16.3%), Air India (14.8%), SpiceJet (11.7%), GoAir (8.4%), Vistara (2.6%) and AirAsia India (2.2%).
India’s air traffic grew over 25% in July as compared to the same year-ago period, according to data released on Friday by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Data compiled by DGCA said that 1,111 passengers were denied booking and paid a compensation of ‘35.56 lakh and 4,697 passengers were affected because of cancellations.
SpiceJet recorded the highest number of passengers per flight or passenger load factor (PLF) for the 15th consecutive month at 92 per cent in July, although its market share contracted by 7.87 percentage points compared to the previous month.
