Indian authorities sent around 30 Pakistani nationals back by foot through the land transit route. The bus runs between New Delhi and Lahore.

“And since then, these passengers have either stayed at the railway station or at nearby hotels”, Pakistan Railways’ Lahore Divisional Transportation Officer Shujat Hussain told Dawn. On the Indian side, the Samjhauta Express link train connects Attari with Delhi.

Last week, the Pakistan foreign office summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad, S. Raghuram, and expressed concern over the train cancellation.

Earlier, the Indian Railway authorities once again cancelled the Samjhota Express which was scheduled to depart from Lahore on Monday.

“The Indian security agencies seek to avoid any untoward situation arising from the prolonged protest of farmers on the railway tracks”, added the official sitting the same reason for the hold-up.

Over 800 trains, including the Samjhauta Express peace train between India and Pakistan, have been cancelled or diverted by railway authorities.
