Passport near Paris attacker came through Serbia

Earlier, witnesses said an elite anti-terror unit had taken up positions outside the popular concert venue, which was attacked by two or three gunmen, who were reported to have shouted slogans condemning France’s role in Syria.

The name of one of the attackers has been released, 29-year-old Omar Mostefai.

Mostefai, 29, was French-born and of Algerian descent.

“Syrians are not terrorists. we need life and peace for work”, he says, adding that he wants to return home once the war is over. He was identified through tests on his severed finger.

It said his details were the same as those of a man who had registered in Greece on October 3. The island is an entry point for refugees and migrants heading to northern Europe from Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East.

Juncker urged them “to be serious about this, and not to give in (to) these basic reactions I don’t like”. The person responsible for the attacks in Paris can not be put on equal footing with real refugees, with asylum seekers and with displaced people. He often brings up the fact that people all around the world are waiting to become citizens of the US legally and that illegal immigrants are unfairly taking their places. Most asylum seekers entering Germany have done so through the southern state.

“No one can know for certain where they come from, their true identity or if their documents are genuine”, Serbian labour minister Aleksandar Vulin said.

Greece has vowed to increase security measures following the attack, including increased surveillance of suspicious people passing through the country.

President Barack Obama is reaffirming his support for France following the deadly attacks.

Hollande said police were launching an assault at one of the attack sites as he spoke.

French investigators are chasing down potential leads and questioning the relatives of a man identified as one of the suicide bombers in the Paris attacks.

France has been on high alert ever since Islamist gunmen attacked the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo and a Kosher supermarket in Paris in January, killing 18 people. Notre Dame Cathedral is having a special service today. He discussed the attacks and his meeting this morning with the Turkish president.

According to the French television channel iTele, at least one person linked to those involved in the Paris attacks has been arrested.

French officials said on Saturday that police were focused on two vehicles, the Seat and a black Volkswagen Polo with Belgian license plates that was rented by a French national residing in Belgium.

One of the suicide bombers, identified as a 25-year-old Syrian man, was carrying a passport that was registered when the passport holder arrived in Leros, Greece, Greece’s minister of public order said.

The Serbian Interior Ministry said the same man passed through Serbia last month where he sought asylum.

“Greece and Europe must keep a very fine balance between security and human rights”, he said.

The fingerprint on the passport was not in the French database, the senator said, and therefore officials believe he was among a group of refugees and migrants.

More than 4 million refugees have come to Europe since Syrian government forces and rebels started fighting, opening up safe havens for ISIS and pro-ISIS forces.

Such a connection, if proven, would be particularly sensitive because if a killer did enter Europe among refugees and migrants fleeing war-torn countries, this could change the political debate about accepting refugees.
