Pastor leads GOP convention in chant, ‘All lives matter!’

The noon rally, organized by the Inland chapter of Black Lives Matter, included speakers, spoken word artists and a voter registration drive. “No racist police”, the protesters screamed as they walked in a circle, occupying the crosswalks of Fourth and Broad streets.

Curtatone was not swayed, saying in a statement to the Globe that a banner honoring the slain officers in Dallas now is hanging in the Somerville police headquarters, “where it would provide the most moral support to our officers”.

Jones, who was black, allegedly lunged at officers with a knife as police hunted for a suspect who robbed a pharmacy near Baldwin Hills.

It’s a statement placing specific – but not exclusive – focus on that injustice and the black people it affects.

“The true tragedy of Los Angeles is that we lose far too many young people, unfortunately primarily of color, to gang violence”, he said.

“The police are a reflection of the community that they serve”, he said. “You would expect to feel protected by a police officer, but since all the events that have happened, instead you feel cautious”. We have to prioritize the conversation about how to end police violence against people of color as well as join in the work of fixing policies that have a negative effect on their social, economic, political lives.

Black Lives Matter does not advocate violence, nor does it suggest that because black lives matter other lives don’t matter.

By pledging to protect police, Garza said Trump was actually promoting police terrorism against black people.

“The Association is opposed to the misuse of excessive force, including deadly force, as are the well-intentioned members of BLM”, McGrath wrote.

The president should visit Baton Rouge and other cities where black men have been killed by police officers, appoint special prosecutors to investigate the deaths and use his executive power to force changes in police departments across the country, Mckesson said.
