“He retrieved his pistol, he went to investigate, and basically he saw the suspect leaving with some electrical equipment”, Clifford said.

Officers converged on the church in Baytown, a city of about 75,000 people 25 miles east of Houston, following reports of gunfire. We’re told he is in stable condition after suffering a single gunshot wound to his right shoulder.

Pastor Benny Holmes was sleeping in his office when he woke up to the sound of someone attempting to break into the church.

It’s not the first time the leader of the Christian church has taken the law into his own hands. In September 2014, after experiencing a string of package thefts, he held a woman accused of trying to steal a package from his porch at gunpoint until police arrived. Mitchell survived and still has one bullet in his head.
