Mr Hickey was also released on bail days later.
A judge in Rio will now review the charges before deciding whether to proceed with the case or not. His passport is now in the custody of Civil Police, who led the investigation into the controversy.
Following this, a court case would be scheduled. If any of the accused remained in prison, it would go through the system quicker, he said.
Lead investigator Aloysio Falcao said that Mallon has been invited to appear today, at 2pm Brazilian time (6pm Irish time), to answer “new questions” that have arisen in their ongoing investigation.
He arrived in a blacked out vehicle and didn’t speak to waiting reporters.
Police claim they have found emails dating back to 2010 between Hickey and Marcus Evans, the head of THG, discussing Rio 2016 tickets.
But a statement from the Hickey family said he will be invoking his constitutional right to silence when he meets detectives.
Patrick Hickey will be questioned by Brazilian police on Tuesday afternoon as part of the investigation into the alleged ticket touting scheme involving Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) tickets at the Rio Olympics.
A ” s we have stated numerous times, PRO10 have at all times acted properly and fully in line with the ATR guidelines.
