Patrick Dempsey to star opposite Renée Zellweger in Bridget Jones’s Baby

Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth are both reprising their roles from the first two films, though Hugh Grant will not be returning for the “threequel”.

A year ago he said he would be interested in filming another Bridget Jones movie so long as it had “somewhere to go”.

Patrick Dempsey will star alongside Renée Zellweger in the upcoming Bridget Jones’s Baby, it has been reported. At 49, he is the right age to serve as a potential love interest for Bridget, who enters her Forties in the third sequel. And Colin Firth offered up this film forecast with the ideal dash of Darcy-esque wit: “The way it’s going, you might be seeing Bridget Jones’s granddaughter’s story being told by the time we get there”. Interestingly, the third movie is not based on Fielding’s 2013 book “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” which preceded the second book.

Oscar-winning screen writer Emma Thompson has been enlisted by Working Title to rewrite the script. Fielding is thought to have written the first draft.

The role in Bridget Jones’s Baby will be the first for Patrick since his Grey’s Anatomy character Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd was killed off in the last season of the show.

The movie is yet to be given a release date, but production is expected to start in the United Kingdom in October.

But Grey’s Anatomy’s future is now uncertain since the departure of Patrick Dempsey, as a petition was created for Shonda Rhimes to bring McDreamy back.
