Patrick Kane wins Hart Trophy in runaway; Braden Holtby takes Vezina

Kane, who became the first USA -born player in League history to win the scoring title, is Chicago’s first Hart Trophy victor since 1967-68 (Stan Mikita). The most remarkable stat of Kane’s season though had to be the 26 game point streak he amassed during the early part of the season. He voted on by players in NHLPA. and Art Ross Trophy, presented “to the player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season”. Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Dallas’ Jamie Benn were the other finalists. He is still the only Stars player in franchise history to receive first-team honors; Sergei Zubov, Marty Turco, Derian Hatcher, Mike Modano and Brian Bellows all had second-team spots in their careers.

Going into the NHL Awards show, many thought Kane would win with the race being close. He also tied for second in the National Hockey League in power play goals (17) and ranked third in goals (41), posting new career highs in each category.

After the Pittsburgh Penguins claimed the Stanley Cup, Jim Rutherford won the NHL General Manager of the Year Award.

One week after Anze Kopitar was named the Los Angeles Kings’ captain, he became the franchise’s first Selke Trophy victor. I’m sure there will be players along the way that will do special things, too, but USA Hockey is in a good place. He beat out three-time victor Patrice Bergeron of Boston and Anaheim’s Ryan Kesler, the 2011 victor.

“It’s wonderful to me that there’s no American that’s ever won the scoring title or the MVP award because there’s been so many great American players”, Kane said.

Washington’s Barry Trotz won the Jack Adams as coach of the year.

The James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded to the defenseman demonstrating “the greatest all-around ability in the position, went to Drew Doughty of LA Kings”. Brent Burns, Sharks (619 points).

Panarin scored 77 points in 80 games during his debut season in North America, leading all rookies in goals (30) and assists (47).

Kane’s teammate Artemi Panarin was named the victor of the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie.

Kane is up for the league’s top honor: The Hart Trophy for NHL MVP along with the Ted Lindsay Award.
