Patrick: Rogue Texas elector could lead to binding law

John Kasich dealt a blow to at least one rogue electoral college member Tuesday, asking him not to vote for Kasich in the presidential election when the electors convene December 19. 7 column “Fate now with Electoral College”, aptly noted: “The stakes are too high, and the evidence of Trump’s presidential aptitude deficit too severe” to ignore. While Clinton leads in the popular vote, Trump defeated her in the Electoral College to win the presidency.

“He does not encourage civil discourse, but chooses to stoke fear and create outrage”, Suprun wrote in the editorial.

Mrs. Clinton’s team and the Democratic National Committee have not endorsed the efforts spearheaded by a group of electors in Colorado and Washington state. The “Certificate of Ascertainment” lists all of the candidates for president who appeared on the states November ballot, along with the electors who pledge to support the individual candidates, and declares who won the electoral votes for the state.

MI law mandates its 16 electors to vote according to the results of the state’s presidential election, which Trump won by.2 percentage points. A host of Republican officials before the election announced their intention to write in Vice President-elect Mike Pence for president after Trump’s comments about women.

“One, it’s not sure to me (Trump’s) able to defend the nation”, Suprun said, pointing out that “there’s clearly some ties to Russian Federation that need to be examined”. Electors would use their judgment to prevent the “tumult and disorder” that would result from “this mischief” of presidential candidates exploiting “talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity”. Before Election Day, political parties in each state chose competing rosters of electors. This isn’t a Hollywood movie, and however scrappy the patriots hoping to ward off the Trump kakistocracy, we’re not guaranteed a happy ending. But if Democrats truly believe what they say about Trump, they should prefer another Republican who does not threaten to normalize what a Trump presidency would.

It turns out Florida is the most disenfranchised state under the Electoral College – and California isn’t even close to the top, coming in at 9th place. Suprun knew he would likely be casting his vote from Trump, given Texas’s deep-red tint. The victor of the popular vote in the entire state is given two Electoral College votes in accordance with the two Senate seats that each state has. “I wanted him to be presidential, but since the election he hasn’t grown into our institution”. “I would be an asterisk in history and I’m okay with that”, he said.
