Patrick Stewart says Wolverine 3 is “probably” his final X-Men film

Jackman may not be the only one departing from the X-Men universe, as Sir Patrick Stewart says Wolverine 3 is possibly his last time playing Charlies Xavier.

Speaking to ITV, as quoted by Coming Soon, Stewart says, “I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me”.

Stewart has played Professor X on and off since the very first X-Men movie in 2000, so it’s been a decade and a half of sitting in a wheel chair and pretending to move stuff with his mind. But watch out in March. “I am going to be back on the screen again”, he said.

Wolverine 3 is directed by James Mangold, who previously helmed 2013’s The Wolverine, which went on to make more than $400 million worldwide.

Since The Wolverine acknowledged the events of X-Men III, it would be safe to assume that Wolverine 3 would do the same, thus taking the death of Professor X at the hands of Phoenix as canon.

Now it appears we can officially consider this his last turn as Professor X, however.

Hugh Jackman has already said that the upcoming film will be his last as the titular character. The whole deal was kind of moot anyway, since Days of Future Past had Wolverine change the timeline and as a result, both Charles and Jean were alive and back to their old selves.

Filming is now underway on the “Wolverine” sequel, due for release in March 2017, with Hugh Jackman reprising his superheroic role from “The X-Men” films. X will do in Wolverine 3?
