Patrick Vieira: ‘Arsenal lack physical presence needed to win league’

Former Arsenal captain, Patrick Vieira, has said that in as much as manager, Arsene Wenger’s stringent transfer policy is helpful to the club, there might be need for reinforcements following the north London side’s lacklustre start to the Premier League campaign.

“They have the exactly the same qualities they had past year and they are team who are very quick on the break and defend well as a unit”.

Koscielny, playing alongside 20-year-old new signing Rob Holding, made several crucial interventions and tackles in the game to help neutralise the threat posed by Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. If I listen to you then I will have done well because I spent the money, but spending the money in itself is not the quality. “You see all the old players working for the club, on the field, in the office – the door is always open for them – but Arsenal don’t do it and I don’t know why”, he said. I don’t understand it.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has signalled he is not prepared to abandon his view of financial prudence for the sake of big-money signings and says he is becoming “fed up” with being asked about transfers. It is surprising that you come out of football games and you don’t speak about football games, you have to speak about money.

“I’m disappointed not to have ex-Arsenal players working at Arsenal”, Vieira explained.

“If you watch the game again I think we did have clear chances in this game”.
