Patriots Garoppolo listed as ‘doubtful’ Thursday vs. Texans

Let’s just say the Patriots-Texans clash on Thursday night is going to be worth just about every penny one pays for seeing this game (in person or on TV).

The New England Patriots lost Jimmy Garoppolo after he went down with a shoulder injury against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. After enduring the round and round of their own quarterback carousel a year ago, the Texans have welcomed the stability afforded by pricey offseason acquisition Brock Osweiler while the Patriots have shuffled signal callers in the wake of Tom Brady’s suspension and Jimmy Garoppolo’s shoulder injury.

After enduring the blow of Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, the Patriots were dealt another punch on Sunday when backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppollo left the game with an injury to his throwing shoulder. Fantasy Tip: Patriots WR Julian Edelman looking for third 100-yard receiving game against Houston.

It didn’t stop an onslaught of Garoppolo-related health questions on Tuesday.

“He has been looked at”.

It’s important to distinguish the difference between preparing to actually play quarterback and practicing to give the defense a quality look.

But he does have a reputation of being a master of misdirection. “I know that he can do that”. “We have to understand the skill sets on their roster”.

Hopefully, for at least another week, the Patriots will have a little better luck and Edelman won’t be needed at quarterback.

“He was a shotgun, wildcat quarterback at Kent State – and really good at it”, O’Brien said. “So I know that he can do that stuff”. “He definitely can’t throw the ball so he made the right switch to receiver at the right time”, he jokingly added.

He said Brissett has improved since he was drafted last spring. The defense has been particularly impressive over that five-game stretch, allowing only 9.6 points per game.

Led by six-foot-eight play-caller Brock Osweiler – who has thrown three touchdowns, three interceptions, and for 499 yards on 41 completions in 68 attempts – the Texans have gotten off to a hot start this season with Week 1 and Week 2 wins versus the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. Two quarterbacks will face off for the first-time ever. It’s a setup that required both patience and discipline. I know that he’s poised. “Those guys, like I said, those guys play very, very hard”. “I’m sure that he’ll be ready to go”. “I think that fits the way he plays perfectly”.

The approach always must be the same, he said.

I’m a firm believer that balance in an offense helps every aspect of a team. The win over Chicago came just over a month after the defensive end had back surgery. He explained that he wanted to get a feel for the pads, which he hasn’t worn for some time, but that he later had to remove them.

He can take them far.

However, Brissett said he’s preparing for this game just like he would any other, even if Thursday is his first National Football League start. Linebacker Dont’a Hightower was upgraded to a limited participant on Tuesday, his first practice since sitting all of last week and Monday with a knee injury. Rapoport later followed up, saying that with Garoppolo officially listed as doubtful, then Edelman is the next in line. CB Eric Rowe (ankle) sat out a second consecutive day.
