Patriots’ Garoppolo passes first test
New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) is hit as he throws by Arizona Cardinals strong safety Tony Jefferson (22) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, in Glendale, Ariz.

“With Tom Brady sitting out the first game of a four-week suspension and All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski out with a hamstring injury, Jimmy Garoppolo did just enough to help the Patriots to a stunning road win at Arizona”, Newsday’s Bob Glauber said. “Any time you lose the opener at home it hurts, but there’s too much football ahead of us, too many guys that love the game, have passion for the game, want to get it right and want to bounce back with a big win at home next week and we’ll continue to work to be able to do that”.
“I’m happy to win, fortunate to win”, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “Again, blocking a couple of good pass-rushers, but he hung in there and gave us some plays in the running game and hung in there on pass protection, so I thought he did a pretty solid job”.
Garoppolo completed 72.7 percent of his passes (24-of-33) for 264 yards and a score in the Week 1 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Besides the botched field goal attempt, the rest of the special teams was also abysmal.
Rob Riggle and the folks at Fox Sports recently put together an interesting musical tribute to Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Even though the Cardinals finished plus-two in turnover margin, Arians said Arizona is going to have a hard time defeating anyone if the team struggles as much as it did defending third down plays.
Keim held back nothing when he described the Cardinals’ performance in the 23-21 loss, which ended with kicker Chandler Catanzaro missing a potential game-winning 47-yard field goal in the final minute. “Let’s go. “Team” on three!”
Brady may be out, but the Patriots proved on opening night they are far from down with Garoppolo at the helm.
While the outcome was obviously disappointing for the Cardinals, it’s only one game, and they’ll look to rebound next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Next thing you know, Johnson was corralled by Devin McCourty at the Patriot 12 for a 45 yard run.
“We were obviously not ready to play”, Arians said. “That was the tale of the whole game from start to finish”.
In front of a hostile crowd on Sunday Night Football and pitted against a playmaking defense that blitzed often, Garoppolo shined just about from the start. We got some things the other day that we didn’t practice.
It takes a very honest man to report such a record, and I applaud him for his decency.
The New Orleans defense has been awful for the last handful of seasons and losing it’s best player in the secondary will certainly not help.
“It was a great game to watch”, Brady added.

The Panthers and Wolverines struggled past year, but if their opening games are any indication, they will do much better this time around. “So this game falls on me, and I hate it”. Had a great drive down the field, I’ve got to make the kick. I think, maybe three for one isn’t out of reach.
