Patriots’ Garoppolo preps for ‘a good test’ against Panthers

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has not played in a preseason game this year and, if he doesn’t suit up this week against the Carolina Panthers, he probably won’t play until week 5 in the regular season against the Cleveland Browns.

Clearly, Brady wants to be on the field.

“I wanted to go and coach (Bill Belichick) said it’s probably best.to just take it easy”, Brady told reporters in his weekly news conference. Moreover, Brady put forth the notion that he would have played last Thursday if it had been a regular-season game. I feel like that’s what my job is, and (my) responsibility is to go out there and be with my team, so it was tough not to be out there.

Tom Brady shouldn’t have any lingering effects from a lacerated thumb suffered last week when the Patriots quarterback reportedly mishandled a pair of scissors. “We just never really got the chance to see him”.

Brady has yet to appear in a game this preseason. “I’m getting [only] so many opportunities left in my life, so I’d like to take advantage of any and all of them if possible”. Instead, Brady ended a second exhibition game off, leaving him just two more preseason games to play before he has to serve his four-game Deflategate suspension. “I’ve prepared like this for two years, and I think that’s a big stepping stone for me, it definitely helped out”.

Cowboys: Rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott, the fourth overall pick in this year’s draft, will make his debut in Thursday’s preseason game at Seattle.

“One-on-one matchups, letting the players play, yeah, I would say you have a better matchup of guys like that, but it’s nothing compared to what we’re going to see in the regular season from a total scheme situation standpoint”.

Asked his reaction when he noticed the severity, Brady said he uttered a word he shouldn’t repeat.

Jimmy Garoppolo will start while Brady’s out, with Brady returning to the starting role once his suspension ends before New England’s game at Cleveland on October 9. “I want to get out there with my teammates”.

He said there has been no shortage of interaction between him and Brady.
