Patriots – Giants By the Numbers

Veteran defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins said the defense needs to play its best game of the season. We’re close to winning as many games this year as we did last year. “We just haven’t won as many of them as I would’ve liked to have won”.

It’s the well-oiled offensive machine against a banged-up defense that is ranked 32nd overall. “The Giants” defense has been decent, mostly on the backs of the special teams. Brady led New England to the go-ahead touchdown with about 5 minutes left, but the Giants took the lead after David Tyree caught a pass by pinning the ball against his helmet.

– This will be the 12th meeting between the Patriots and the Giants.

The Giants actually have a three-game winning streak overall against New England dating back to the huge upset after the 2007 season that derailed the Patriots’ ideal season.

The Patriots and Brady will look for someone to step into that role now that Dion Lewis has been lost for the season with a knee injury.

Hey, if history can repeat itself, Big Blue could do just that on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots then went on to lose to the same NY team in the famous Super Bowl, ultimately falling one victory short of unparalleled perfection. While this would be a much more methodical scheme that is contrary to the unpredictable and up-tempo scheme New England has employed so far this season, the Pats have used the power-run successfully before. “There’s no secret to it. He’s back there in the gun he’s gonna throw it. We gotta find away on the back end to play a little bit tighter”. “Going into the league, you get to do all these things and this is one of those ones that’s at the top of the list is playing against the Patriots and Belichick and Brady and everything that they have there”. Once again, there are a few who said that the Giants were lucky because of two plays: the Mario Manningham catch and the Wes Welker non-catch. The Giants had three plays that could have probably ensured the win and they did not make them.

“You have to keep the ball, you’ve got to take full advantage of your drives, your opportunities and the good mix, and the clock running is all part of that”.

As noted previously, it will be imperative for the Giants to put pressure on Tom Brady and it will have to come not only from their defensive front four, but their linebackers and blitzing secondary. “Those games (1990) were a long time ago and won’t have any bearing on this game”.

“My hand doesn’t hurt, guys, so let me just get that out there”, he said.

A product of New Orleans, one of those teams was undoubtedly the Peyton Manning-led Colts.

New England is converting a league-best 48.5 percent on third downs, and Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski are tied for second in the NFL with seven touchdown catches.

“That’€™s how much they adjust”, he said.
