Jacoby Brissett made his first career National Football League start in front of a primetime audience on Thursday night, leading the Patriots to a dominant 27-0 victory over the Houston Texans in Foxboro. Faces likely surgery for stabilization.

The Patriots reportedly worked out former Texans quarterback T.J. Yates and former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Sean Renfree last week before choosing to stick with just Brissett and Edelman as healthy options for the Houston game.

Boston radio station WEEI reported earlier Friday that Brissett has a torn ligament in his thumb.

He was also listed as the backup during Thursday’s Week 3 game.

Patriots future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady still has one game left to serve during his four-game suspension, but New England has rolled without him, starting 3-0 with wins over Arizona, Miami, and Houston.

After a thrilling run for his first National Football League touchdown – riding the wave of momentum his defense and running game were giving the team – New England Patriots rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett, and the Pats for that matter have been hit with some bad news. But it does not look to be anything too serious according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. On the play, Brissett scrambled off left guard for four yards into open space but didn’t slide.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick and play-caller Josh McDaniels deserve all the credit in the world for devastating a solid Texans team 27-0 on Thursday with the untested Brissett at the helm.
