Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett reportedly suffered torn thumb ligament against Texans

He went down in the second game and then Brissett came in and shined for the Pats in the Thursday night game.

After Jacoby Brissett scored his first NFL touchdown, the Patriots rookie handed the football to his head coach.

Brissett seems to be feeling right at home and New England Patriots general manager, Bill Belichick is more than happy to have him on the team.

The Texans couldn’t key on rookie Jacoby Brissett-to the point that even he got in on the action with a 27-yard score on a bootleg-and that limited the damage Houston could do to the quarterback. As a starter, Tom Brady has had just seven games where he’s thrown 19 or passes or less and in five of those games he didn’t complete the game either due to injury or it being the last game in the regular season.

The Patriots left two safeties sitting over the top for much of the night because both Texans receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller are capable of going deep; the Patriots wanted the safeties to keep an eye on both. In three days the Patriots transformed the offense into something Brissett could handle, something he could thrive in and something the other Patriots had to believe they could win from.

The 0-2 Bears will start journeyman quarterback Brian Hoyer against the Cowboys (1-1).

Will the New England Patriots win their first four games without their star quarterback?

The Patriots are 3-0.

“It wasn’t just a 2-shell”, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said about the Patriots safety usage after the game, “it was the type of 2 [shell] that they were playing which was very hard”.

This largely has to do with the fact that Belichick takes the opponents’ best player, and nullifies them.

Watt is 0-5 (including one playoff game) against the Patriots, recording only a 1/2 sack in those contests. One thing I was a little surprised to see was the limited blitzes defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel utilized to get to the quarterback. That’s when Patriots quarterback Steve Grogan pulled off a 41-yard-touchdown run against the Jets, still the longest for a QB in team history.

NFL Week 3 schedule on Sunday with another packed listing. Punter Ryan Allen, who had struggled to some degree over the first two weeks of the season, should also get individual kudos on the evening for pinning Brock Osweiler and the Texans inside the 20-yard-line with six of his seven kicks on the night.

“You know how much respect I have for Curly Lambeau and what he accomplished in his great career, but really today’s not about me”, Belichick said.
