ESPN’s Adam Shefter first reported that Lewis was not expected to play early Sunday morning.

New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis is inactive for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets due to abdomen injury. Defensive end Jabaal Sheard, tackle Marcus Cannon and linebacker Rufus Johnson were all ruled out last Friday and would have missed practice on Monday. The Patriots also have LeGarrette Blount as their top power back.

Ryan Wendell, Brandon LaFell and Trey Flowers are making their season debuts. Josh Kline, who has played both right and left guard this season, could be counted on to take the majority of the reps on the left side while Tre’ Jackson and Wendell handle the right guard work.

A fourth-round draft choice out of Wisconsin past year, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound White was beaten out by Lewis for the top passing back spot on the depth chart in training camp in a three-way competition that also included Travaris Cadet.

The Patriots listed Lewis as inactive for Sunday’s game.

Lewis suffered a fractured fibula and ligament damage in his left leg during the 2013 preseason, preventing him from playing a down during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
