Patriots running back Dion Lewis out for the season

However capable a running back Blount may be, Lewis has been wonderful so far this season, rushing for 234 yards and adding 36 receptions and 388 yards, and will be a major loss for the New England offense.

Running back Dion Lewis, who emerged as a key cog in the Patriots’ offense after being out of the National Football League for two seasons, reportedly was lost for the season with a knee injury during Sunday’s 27-10 win over the Washington Redskins. LeGarrette Blount led the way with 129 yards and a touchdown.

Although he seems to falter at times, when the team needs him most he carries the ball his best.

LeGarrette Blount will not take up the starting role in the Patriots’ backfield, and although he lacks the quality of Lewis in the passing game, his downhill running will be a weapon.

Lewis, who finishes the season with 622 total yards and four touchdowns in seven games, was on pace for the best season by a Patriots third-down back in the Belichick-Tom Brady era. White has seven catches for 52 yards on the season. White played a career-high 43 snaps in the game. He is a slightly bigger body but displays similar shiftiness and tackle shaking ability. Four were listed on the teams injury report prior to Sunday’s game, excluding Nate Solder whose injury will keep him on the sidelines with Lewis for the rest of 2015. With that said, the Pats were still very effective through the air, as Tom Brady threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns.

New England heads to MetLife Stadium this weekend to square off with the NY Giants. Neither White nor Bolden has Lewis’ versatility, however.
