Patriots, Saints express mutual admiration at joint practice

There were individual drills and full-team drills when the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots gathered Wednesday at the Saints’ training camp in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, to begin a set of joint practices.

Anthony, a player who’s having a good camp, got beaten over the middle by a Patriots tight end for a score. It was clear also that both coaches found the workouts helpful as well. “There are a ton of things we need to work on and when you get a different team (in practice) I think it prevents you from falling into that going-through-the-motions routine that can happen”. Aside from that play, it was a quiet day for Butler, which is usually a good sign for any defensive back. The one-on-one period itself you can spend 2½ half hours on.

Andrus Peat was a large investment at tackle by the Saints this offseason and it is easy to see why they like the kid. “Both teams were on the same page, and I though we got a lot done”.

Here’s a sentence you won’t see often: This week, the winless New England Patriots and winless New Orleans Saints square off. When two teams have been practicing for a while against each other, tempers (flare) the last day. “That’s the objective for all 32 teams”.

With the facility and the Saints offering an ideal working environment, and the experience being so positive, Belichick offered a somewhat surprising answer when said if he might consider making the Saints a more permanent practice partner, even if they are not on the preseason schedule.

There was a moment when the cameras were shut off and things got tense.

1Tom Brady carved up the Saints second-string secondary, completing his final 14 passes of the practice in a row and tossing five touchdowns. As for the Patriots the two wide outs to look for are Aaron Dobson and Brian Tyms.

Coleman didn’t do anything last week against the Baltimore Ravens, but he’s an intriguing player nonetheless.

Berman also suggested that the league’s finding that Brady was generally aware that game balls were being deflated was too vague, noting that any reference to the January 18 game against the Colts was “conspicuously absent” in a report on an NFL investigation that the league used as a basis for the suspension. New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith had his jaw broken by a punch thrown by then-teammate IK Enemkpali in a locker room incident.

Hightower and Mayo were active and energetic during the joint sessions, particularly Hightower, who hits the sled with such ferocity he almost knocks it over on every rep.

James White showed a tremendous ability to gain yards after he catches the ball on screens and short outs from the backfield. “It’s all about learning, moving forward, getting better, competing”. He could, however, emerge as the third-down back once Blount returns.

This could be a big night for Lewis, who was solid in his first week of camp before missing more than a week with an undisclosed injury.
