Patriots shoot down possibility of quarterback controversy

Jimmy Garoppolo impressed as training camp opened Thursday.

It was the most noteworthy show of frustration during what appeared to be a highly-competitive day of work for Bill Belichick’s club.

So those of you in Boston, try to think of Deflategate like Damon is: That hopefully, it will ultimately make victory that much sweeter.

“It definitely started two years ago”, Gronkowski said. One of the most unselfish players I’ve ever coached, a guy who really understood his role, did a great job in his very important role.

In Brady’s absence, Garoppolo, a 2014 second-round draft pick (No. 62 overall) will take the reins to the offense. Why would the veteran try to help the guy who, if he’s anything like Brady was at that age, wants to send Brady to the bench and into retirement?

Moving forward means that Garoppolo will need to start against Arizona on September 11, and then again against the Dolphins, Texans and Bills. When asked if backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would still be the starter over Brady, Belichick responded with his trademark scowl and an annoyed “Jesus Christ” under his breath.

“I never dealt with it until I’d say a decision has been made that this is what it’ll be”, he said. “Him pissed is a good thing for the New England Patriots faithful”. “I don’t feel like anybody can be in top notch football shape when you first get out there, and that’s what training camp is for and that’s why it’s a long process”. “There could be weeks where Im playing a lot of receiver, and there could be weeks Im playing a lot of special teams. Perhaps he was anxious that Bill Belicheck is cold blooded enough that if Jimmy Garoppolo plays well, he will find his spot on the bench just like Drew Bledsoe did. Surely, Garoppolo, the student, shined during the teacher’s relegation period. You can be in a situation where you play a hard Sunday game and, all of sudden, you got a (quick turnaround) on a Thursday night. Or maybe we’ll see Jason Bourne team up with Affleck’s Batman to rescue Brady from the evil Commissioner Goodell. The throws to Brown gained yards – obviously the whole objective while also minimizing mistakes – but it’d be nice to see Garoppolo push it down field a bit more because this is the time to push his limits. Preparation for the first four games of the season will be different without him, but that will end when the suspension does.

The event, which has grown to be a summer tradition, will kick off at 5 p.m. with the 2016 Patriots Hall of Fame induction ceremony recognizing former running back and three-time Super Bowl champion Kevin Faulk.
