Patriots’ Tom Brady salutes Jimmy Garoppolo for a job well done

The New England Patriots quarterback said Wednesday he received a few “humbling texts” from his three brothers after leading the New England Patriots to a 23-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Eli Manning threw for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score to Victor Cruz in his first game in almost two years, and the Giants beat the Cowboys.

“It’s fun to watch them and support them, and even if I’m not out there, I’m with them in spirit and I’m just hoping and cheering like all those Patriots fan that we win every game we play”, he said.

AND coach Bill Belichick bestowed the game ball on Garoppolo after the win.

The Cowboys’ Terrance Williams had a chance to get out of bounds on a 14-yard completion to the NY 40 but chose to go upfield rather than race to the sideline with about 7 seconds left.

“This is just one game”, said wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who had one of the TD catches. Lot of great plays by Jimmy, by the skill players. “They outplayed us and we will learn from it and grow from it and continue. There’s a long way to go and regroup and see if we can win the next one”. Week 1 of the National Football League season is always the most unpredictable, as we don’t know much about teams actual rosters and how they will play together for 60 minutes. I’ll never love the way Patricia plays the team defensively but given the below average cornerbacks on the roster it will have to do for now. The Cardinals had so many chances to get their defense off the field and couldn’t get the job done, especially on the Patriots final drive, which ended up being the game winning field goal.

Despite having the home field advantage, the Arizona Cardinals were behind for most of the game, and only took the lead following the aforementioned Fitzgerald touchdown.

We’ll see if losing a game like that has a lasting effect on a team with so much uncertainty.

The Patriots, also without injured tight end Rob Gronkowski, ran the ball almost half the time – they threw 65 percent of the time last season – but in many ways, this offense didn’t look much different with Garoppolo at the helm.

“I mean, Im really, really concerned about the story line, ” Belichick said with obvious sarcasm.

New England, a five-point underdog, took the lead on its first possession and scored again to start the second half.

“It was a great night for him and for our whole offense”, Brady said on Westwood One Radio during his weekly “Monday Night Football” interview. “It’s understanding that we’re going to get some things that we didn’t practice”. Great team. I’m looking forward to seeing these guys on the field. “If he’s going to play, he needs to play better or he shouldn’t play”. New England is the only AFC East team to win its opener.

The Patriots were without not only Brady but tight end Rob Gronkowski and defensive end Rob Ninkovich, yet their replacements did just enough to secure victory.
