Pats know Jets present a true threat

This weekend’s game with the Jets will be a great litmus test on which matchups matter most, as New York has a number of the components we discussed (especially the ability to play man coverage in the secondary, thanks to Darrelle Revis), but certainly not all.

Revis was with the Jets from the start of his career until 2012, when he left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one season.

“That’s an obvious question, man, ” Ridley said, when asked if the opponent provides a little extra spark. That means containing running back Chris Ivory.

In 2014, Bowles’ defense lost Pro Bowlers Darnell Dockett (knee), John Abraham (head) and Daryl Washington (suspension) for the season, but still managed to hold offenses to 18.6 points per game. Zwiebach lives in New York City with his wife and two kids, who without fail manage to block his view of the TV whenever a game-changing play occurs. Bowles has an impressive defensive pedigree, including two years as Arizona defensive coordinator, but he isn’t getting caught up in the hype of the game, or the star-studded offense he is about to face. The Jets lone loss this season was to the Philadelphia Eagles. He sees formations and routes and splits and anything pre-snap that can help him get an idea of whether the ball is coming his way or if it’s going the other, or if it’s a run or pass or deep throw or short throw. New England won seven of the past eight meetings, though five of the games were decided by a field goal or less. We’ve had a lot of close games with them over the years, a lot of situational football has come in to play, a lot of two-minute drives and stopping them at the end, overtime games. “He’s a very explosive player, and he does have very good initial quickness”.

Unfortunately, Hightower is now dealing with a rib injury, and his status is questionable for the game this weekend.

Ridley said he’s not surprised his former team – and Tom Brady in particular – are playing so well in the aftermath of Deflategate.

The Jets have been able to rely on their top-ranked defense for most of the year.

This important aspect of the game is a disadvantage for the Patriots, and I could see it becoming an issue for the team. Linebackers Jamie Collins and Don’t’a Hightower are going to clean up a lot of their messes, but their job has been extremely hard this year with weak performances in front of them. Regardless, I have faith in Bill Belichick to have a great plan of attack.

MARSHALL LAW: Brandon Marshall has 100 or more yards receiving in four straight games, becoming the Jets’ first player to accomplish the feat since Hall of Famer Don Maynard in 1968 and the third overall. If the Patriots can force their hand, and make Fitzpatrick beat them through the air, this one could get ugly early.
