Pats’ rookie QB, defense blitz Texans

You may have heard: Friday it was revealed that the New England Patriots’ third-string quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, has torn ligaments in his right thumb and will need surgery. Brissett, a third-round draft pick out of N.C. State, completed 11 of 19 passes for 103 yards, and also ran in a 27-yard touchdown while playing through an injured right thumb. He also spoke at his locker afterward without any bandage or ice on his hand. That means incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie backup Jacoby Brissett, both of whom have seen time while Tom Brady serves his four-game suspension for Deflategate. If Garoppolo and Brissett are not healthy enough to go, it will be interesting to see if the Pats go with emergency QB (starting WR) Julian Edelman or a free agent QB as their one week place holder. The team now has 10 days before playing Buffalo on October 2 to bring in a free agent if one is needed.

Of course he and James were far from the only players who made mistakes against the Patriots.

Although he doesn’t want his team to wallow in what happened against the Patriots, O’Brien and his coaching staff will study film to try and figure out how things went so wrong.

The Patriots have 10 days to recuperate, with only a game against Buffalo (0-2) on October 2 remains before Brady could inexplicably return to a 4-0 team. Even without one of the most accomplished players ever, the Patriots are 3 – 0. The New England Patriots shut out the Houston Texans in week three’s Thursday night football game.

Brissett was the only active quarterback on the roster Thursday.

“I think he handled himself great – last week, this week, all week, every day”, Belichick said of Brissett. He didn’t play in the Patriots’ Thursday Night Football win over the Houston Texans.

Elsewhere • Jets receiver Brandon Marshall is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, against the Chiefs, and coach Todd Bowles said Marshall will probably be a game-time decision as he continues to recover from knee and foot injuries.

“They never really put him in a situation where he had to be throwing the ball too much”, Houston star defensive end J.J. Watt said after the game, according to the Associated Press.

The first score of the game was Brissett’s big mark.

If Brissett does not start another game all season he should be happy with the result from last night. They relied on the defense to keep the Texans off the scoreboard, and on the running game to be dominant and that is what they got from Legarrette Blount. They came out and played a hell-of-a game.

They are trying to repeat the success of the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers who had the same early season record when Ben Roethlisberger was suspended for the first four games.

“That’s news to me”, receiver Danny Amendola told reporters before adding, “Injuries are a part of the game, whatever they are”.
