Patti Smith’s memoir “Just Kids” will be adapted into a miniseries by Showtime, the premium cable network announced Tuesday.
John Logan received the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critic Circle and Drama League awards for his play Red, which has had more than 200 productions across the United States and has been presented in over 30 countries. Stay tuned for more details. The book won the 2010 National Book Award for Nonfiction, so you know the series will be fully top-notch. He said that the book serves as an inspiring story of friendship, love, and endurance that led him to believe that if put into the screen, will yield a successful amount of popularity and awe the audience. Smith, working with Oscar nominee John Logan (The Aviator, Gladiator), created the script, and will also co-produce the series.
Patti Smith is a writer, performer, and visual artist. Speaking about the upcoming series Showtime president David Nevins described the book as ‘one of my favourite memoirs of all time’. Now, the successful book has spawned a TV show, as Just Kids will be coming to Showtime for a limited series.
Nevins noted that “every studio and producer in town” had been after Smith’s book. One doesn’t have to be a fan of Smith’s music, nor of the Underground/Avant-Garde/Punk scenes, to appreciate her intimate, gentle and soaring text.

Smith recently announced a sequel to Just Kids, titled M Train, which will be released on October 6.
