Paul Manafort resigns as chairman of Donald Trump campaign

On Twitter, the ousted Lewandowski seemed to be reveling in the news. He boastfully retweeted a message from a political journalist just moments after the announcement: “Lewandowski is winning so much even he may get exhausted of winning”.

Neither Manafort nor Gates were taking a paycheck from the Trump campaign as of June 30, according to campaign finance reports filed with federal regulators.

Manafort, who only took over as campaign chairman from Corey Lewandowski in June, has in the past week been linked to covert U.S. lobbying for Ukraine’s pro-Russia government and failed to disclose his foreign links as per USA law.

But after several stumbles after the Republican National Convention – including Trump’s attacks on a Muslim Gold Star family whose slain son served in Iraq – Trump has slipped in polls across the board in the last few weeks.

People with direct knowledge of Gates’ work told the AP that, during the period when Gates and Manafort were consultants to Yanukovych’s Party of Regions, Gates was also helping steer the advocacy work done by a pro-Yanukovych nonprofit that hired a pair of Washington lobbying firms.

The effort included not just legislative outreach but also attempts to sway American public opinion and gather political intelligence on competing lobbying efforts in the US.

The resignation announcement came just as Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, touched down in Louisiana to tour the flood-ravaged Gulf Coast.

The Trump campaign has a tumultuous relationship with Russian affairs.

In a four-way race, the Democratic nominee’s numbers fell to 45 percent, and Trump’s numbers fell to 37 percent. “We’re going to make sure Donald Trump is comfortable about being in his own skin – that he doesn’t lose that authenticity that you simply can’t buy and a pollster can’t give you”.
