Paul Manafort Resigns As Head Of Trump Campaign
Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort has resigned from his position on the campaign, the Republican presidential nominee said in a statement Friday.

Manafort’s resignation comes a day after The Associated Press reported that confidential emails from Manafort’s firm contradicted his claims that he had never lobbied on behalf of Ukrainian political figures in the U.S.
According to CNBC news, Manafort, 67, joined the campaign in March, and had clashed with campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who was sacked three months later.
“This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign”, Trump said in a statement.
Ukrainian anti-corruption investigators have corroborated the existence of what they called a “black ledger” of payments made by Yanukovich’s party but stressed that they could not establish whether Manafort himself received money.
Ukrainian journalist and member of parliament Serhiy Leshchenko holds pages showing allegedly signings of payments to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign chairman Paul Manafort from an illegal shadow accounting book of the party of former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.
Stephen Bannon of Breitbart News is now serving as chief executive of the campaign and pollster Kellyanne Conway is campaign manager. Manafort was first hired in March to lead Trump’s effort to consolidate his delegates numbers in time for the Republican National Convention.
This is second change at the top of Trump’s campaign in little more than two months, AP agency stresses.
The Trump campaign and Manafort did not immediately respond to VICE News’ requests for comment.
Manafort was said to have been championed by Trump’s daughter Ivanka, and Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner, in that campaign reboot, as he transitioned from the primaries to the general election.
Even so, as late as Thursday, some Trump aides were expecting Mr Manafort’s departure, saying he was inclined to give the newer team members room to develop and execute their own strategy.
Trump’s son Eric said Friday that while Manafort had been instrumental in steering the campaign through the GOP convention, the former chairman’s business past had begun to detract from his father’s messages.

“Well, look it’s obviously a hard thing for anybody when they change jobs and have a position that they’ve been so invested in for a long time and really put their heart and soul into something, to not be part of it, particularly when you’re this close”, Lewandowski told CNN’s Kate Bolduan on “At This Hour”.
