Paul Manafort Resigns As Trump Campaign Chairman

“If you start pivoting, you’re not being honest with people”. It was a visit that drew a contrast with President Barack Obama and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who have yet to visit in the wake of flooding that dropped a devastating 2 feet of rain on a part of the state hit hard by Hurricane Katrina over a decade ago. He predicted that Trump would continue to rely on Manafort’s advice.

Bannon was tapped to lead Donald Trump’s campaign this week, effectively replacing Paul Manafort whose resignation was announced Friday morning.

Thursday’s revelations from Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) were followed on Friday, August 19, by claims by a top lawmaker that Paul Manafort lobbied in favor of a pro-Kremlin party even after February’s 2014 pro-EU revolt pulled Ukraine out of Russia’s orbit.

Neither Manafort nor his deputy, Rick Gates, another Trump campaign aide, ever disclosed their work as foreign agents as required by federal law, AP reports. The effort to turn Trump into a conventional candidate, with a few exceptions, never really took.

Eric Trump complimented Mr. Manafort for getting the campaign through the primary process and the convention, and said the new team will ultimately get them to a victory.

Mr. Manafort was brought on in March to manage the campaign’s convention operations, and later took the reins after Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager, was sacked in June.

Washington Post reporter Robert Costa, who broke the news of Manafort’s resignation, attributed the news to a close friend who said Manafort was leaving “on good terms” and to give recent Trump campaign hires more space.

But the Clinton camp also found itself on the defensive for the first time in weeks.

Since the advent of television, political ads have been a mainstay on the airwaves every election cycle.

Trump’s trip was a striking detour for a candidate who has largely stuck to boisterous rallies and phone-in interviews to appeal to voters.

In East Baton Rouge Parish, Friday, Trump’s motorcade drove through hard-hit communities, where ripped up carpet and flooring, furniture and the entire contents of homes were piled on the curb. “He was concerned his previous consulting work would be a distraction for Trump”. “And it’s the direction that Donald Trump wants to go and that’s the direction to lay out his vision for America”.

Gates, who also works for the Trump campaign, told the AP his actions were lawful. The campaign wasn’t going the way Trump thought it should or could be so he brought in fresh blood.
