The Official Charts turn 60 this year, and to celebrate they’re collating a number of records.

With 15 Number Ones with The Beatles, two with Wings, four as a solo artist and one in collaboration with ex-wife Linda McCartney, the singer has totalled 22 chart-topping albums over almost six decades.

The Liverpool legend has spent more weeks at Number 1 than any other individual (191 weeks), had the longest-running debut Number 1 album and the best-selling studio album of all time too with Sgt. Pepper.

As the reigning king of the United Kingdom album charts, McCartney automatically becomes the recipient of the new Official Chart Record Breaker Award, which, says his website, is presented to a selected elite of artists achieving the greatest feats on the Official Chart.

Relatives going through the belongings of the late British singer Cilla Black inadvertently discovered a treasured piece of Beatles history: Paul McCartney’s long-lost demo recording of 1964’s “It’s for You”, a song the Beatles gave to Black.

Okay, you know how it really feels? I remember when “Please, Please Me” went to #1, that was our first #1 record, and it’s a handsome feeling to suddenly get this [award].

Cilla Black took ‘It’s For You’ to number seven in the United Kingdom charts after it was sent by the Beatle but the original demo, produced by George Martin, vanished until it was unearthed by Stephen Bailey, of the Beatles Shop in Mathew Street, Liverpool, amongst a collection of 21 demos which were in Black’s possession before her death previous year.

McCartney has placed albums on the United Kingdom chart every decade, selling an estimated 700 million albums globally.

“Congratulations, Paul. Here’s to many more No. 1 albums to come!” “I realized that this was the long lost Beatles demo disc from 1964, and I was probably one of the few people to have seen and heard it in over 50 years”.
