Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads will be coaching his last game for the Cyclones on Saturday, as the school announced that it will be making a change following the season.

That loss dropped the Cyclones’ record to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12 with one game remaining.

The game pits the Kansas State Wildcats, now No. 92 in our Odds Shark NCAA Football Power Rankings, against the Iowa State Cyclones, who rate No. 96 in the latest survey. He just didn’t win enough to keep his job. Things started out well, with a 7?6 showing and an Insight Bowl victory over Minnesota in his first season in 2009. However, in recent years, Rhoads’ teams couldn’t replicate those earlier performances and the Cyclones have gone 7-26 during the past three seasons.

During his tenure, Iowa State won three of the last five in-state rivalry games against Iowa under Rhoads. The Cyclones lost 38-35.

Kansas State has won eight straight against Iowa State. Personally, this decision is long overdue and if it was up to me, Rhoads would have been fired after last year’s disgusting 2-10 performance, which included being 0-9 against teams in the division.

This is the third year in a row that Rhoads was unable to lead Iowa State to more than three wins in a season.

The Wildcats’ only offensive touchdown in the first half came on a 4-yard jump pass from fullback Glenn Gronkowski to fellow fullback Winston Dimel in the first quarter.
