Paul Ryan defends support of Donald Trump

“I can’t vote for Hillary Clinton and I can’t vote for Donald Trump, and it breaks my heart”, says Jeb Bush. You don’t get a third option.

Ryan noted he’d spoken with Trump for weeks before offering the presumptive Republican nominee his endorsement, and was clear that he still disagrees with him on some topics.

“I love you, Charles”.

Trump slammed Clinton for having downplayed V.A. problems the past and promised investigations into V.A. incompetence and corruption, warning if Congress balks at changes, he’ll use executive actions to clean house. Ryan was more direct on that question.

His go-to example to make that case: Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The Republican National Committee’s general counsel said the delegates selected in this year’s primaries and caucuses were bound to support the candidate who won their state under rules adopted in 2012.

Instead, Ryan responded that by failing to support Trump, “That basically means you’re going to help elect Hillary Clinton – and I don’t think Hillary Clinton is going to support any of the things that you stand for if you’re a Republican”.

“I highly doubt it”, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a brief interview of the prospects that the rebels would succeed. “I don’t think that is something she should have done”.

The speaker has one of the toughest jobs in politics right now: safeguarding the future of the Republican Party while simultaneously uniting the party around its controversial presumptive nominee. “Unfortunately, they are disenfranchising the majority of Republicans by denying them representation at the convention”.

He pledged Tuesday to speak out and defend his principles whenever they diverge with those of Trump.

“All of a sudden when it’s not their nominee of choice, they don’t want to get behind and unite, but we as delegates we are here for the people”, Schindlbeck said. “We can not afford to have America have its commander in chief be someone who espouses hatred, divisiveness and who wants to separate people”, Cook County Commissioner Chuy Garcia said. “It doesn’t work like that”. In a tweet sent out ahead of his campaign event, Trump said crime is out of control and specifically called out Chicago.

Ryan, for instance, repudiated Trump’s attacks on an American-born judge of Mexican ancestry who is presiding over a civil suit against the billionaire. Ryan, who endorsed Trump in June, said those comments met the “textbook” definition of racism.

The audience included Mark Hughes, a man who was pictured legally carrying a rifle on the night of the attacks that killed five police officers in Dallas last week. Sanders staffers worked with the Democratic National Committee to draft a platform that both groups can agree on. He also pledged that “we have got to clean up the VA” so that it could treat issues unique to veterans, including PTSD. He said that numerous votes cast for Trump in the primaries did not come from members of the Republican Party.

Anti-Trump efforts hope to reach the required 28 of 112 members of support later this week to force a vote to unbind the delegates on the floor of the full convention next week.
