Paul Ryan: Donald Trump’s good outweighs his bad

The Speaker also said that he hoped Trump would choose a conservative as his running mate.

Ryan repeated his disagreements with Trump on the Muslim ban and a proposal to deport the nation’s estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants. Ryan was more direct on that question.

“I’ve encouraged him to embrace the platform, and I believe that he will”, said Wyoming Sen. “It’s just that simple”.

“I’m hopeful we come out of [the convention] a united party… because this country is in trouble and four to eight years of an extension of Obama policies, in addition to those Supreme Court picks, could change the course of history for several generations”.

“I just don’t think we should be talking about dividing at all”.

But such moves aren’t easy, because the convention’s presiding officer who at times will be Priebus or House Speaker Paul Ryan has clout to decide who to recognize on the convention floor to make procedural motions.

“If 10 percent of the delegates don’t show up or don’t get viable replacements or valid replacements, I think his nomination could be in jeopardy”, Brady said.

She said it was especially damaging the party with young people to be fighting so stridently to maintain what she called “very hurtful, very mean-spirited” language including declaring families without a married mother and father to be damaging to society and to children.

The complete text of the platform – an update of the party’s 2012 platform – will remain officially under wraps until it is presented to the full convention Monday, the first day of the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena.

He pledged Tuesday to speak out and defend his principles whenever they diverge with those of Trump.

“Let me be clear: I will support the Republican nominee”, Hultgren said in the release. “It doesn’t work like that”. “Well, presidential candidate Donald Trump is one of those ignorant people”, Biondi said.

Ryan, for instance, repudiated Trump’s attacks on an American-born judge of Mexican ancestry who is presiding over a civil suit against the billionaire.

“After I went back and looked back at it a second time, I realized it wasn’t”, he said. Police initially misidentified him as a suspect and his picture was posted on Twitter.

Kobach was one of the elected officials who endorsed Trump early in the primary process, in large part due to Trump’s strong stand on securing the border. I’m sure some Youngstowners have worked on the Democratic National Convention.

But although some of the “Dump Trump” coalition seems prepared to do battle, they still don’t have an alternative candidate to Donald Trump (though the leader of Delegates Unbound seems to be rather coy about the size of her army).

“All of a sudden when it’s not their nominee of choice, they don’t want to get behind and unite, but we as delegates we are here for the people”, Schindlbeck said. They are the place where the party comes together behind its candidates.
