Paul Ryan gets a sweet pay raise
Patty Murray (D-Wash.) said, “I wish Chairman Ryan luck as he prepares to take on his new role as Speaker of the House”.

In accepting the position after his election October 29, Ryan said he wanted to get the House working again for the American people who work hard every day but continue to slip backward economically and see little hope from their elected representatives because they see “chaos” in the House.
This line isn’t completely new for Ryan, whose ability to become speaker hinged on his willingness to avoid letting those reforms make it to the House floor. But in the end most Republicans swung behind Ryan, underscoring the strong desire of almost all members for a fresh start after years of conflict and GOP infighting.
LaHood voted against the two-year budget deal which allocates $80 billion more for military and domestic programs, along with a series of spending cuts and revenue increases touching.
Boehner, for whom Ryan volunteered during his first run for Congress in 1990, offered his own thoughts on Ryan’s future in an interview with Bash just before he left the House.
“I will be sure to extend my hand in cooperation if in return, the priorities of the American people are placed at the top of the agenda”, she continued. When they voted behind closed doors Wednesday to choose their nominee for speaker, 43 voted for Rep. Daniel Webster, R-Fla., who was endorsed by the Freedom Caucus before Ryan formally entered the race. “As I voted on the floor today, I was steadfast in my belief that it was ‘not time to promote from within.’ We arrived at this crossroads in the midst of Washington dysfunction and business-as-usual: last-minute budget gimmicks and deferring the tough spending choices we are elected to make”.
Yet, despite Ryan’s insistence that he would only take the speakership with the provision that he was not required to travel and fundraise on the weekends so he can instead spend time with his children, it remains to be determined what a Ryan speakership will actually mean for women’s health – not to mention the kind of paid family leave policy that he essentially has implemented for himself. Ryan is also 23 years younger than the former Massachusetts governor, the same age of Romney’s oldest son.
“We’ll be happy to move the bill as long as we get rid of those vexatious riders that have nothing to do with the bill brought before us”, he said. “We traveled, we recruited, did that”. “Unfortunately, I never received that confirmation from Congressman Ryan, preventing me from being able to support him”. That obstructionism flows both ways: it’s highly unlikely that President Obama would sign any piecemeal immigration bill, such as a border security law, that Democrats don’t like.
Ryan is very conservative, but we don’t believe he wants his name on another government shutdown or a debt default that would send the USA economy into a tailspin. Naturally, getting the VP nod in August 2012 boosted the site’s traffic and inspired a new flurry of posts, but after Obama was re-elected, the site went dormant. Despite these areas of common interest, the most notable exchanges between Obama and Ryan have come when they’ve been at odds.

That matter has largely been resolved, though a few horse trading can happen within certain agency budgets.
